NYO Games Alaska is an annual athletic event for junior and senior high school students from across the state. NYO promotes healthy lifestyles, traditional values and positive sportsmanship – all in an atmosphere of fun and excitement.
For more than thirty years, NYO Games Alaska has been a highly anticipated event in Anchorage. Hundreds of young people from communities throughout the state compete in traditional contests of skill and strength – the one-hand reach, one-foot kick, two-foot high kick, Alaskan high kick, wrist carry, seal hop, and other events.
NYO Games Alaska promote:
- Healthy lifestyles, positive self-esteem and leadership skills.
- Appreciation of Alaska Native traditions.
- Good sportsmanship through friendly competition.
By participating in NYO, young people strengthen traditional subsistence and survival skills that have been passed down through countless generations.
